The Abayudaya – Uganda’s Jews

What do you know about the Jews of Uganda, the Abayudaya?Learn about this remarkable community in a program co-sponsored by the Flemington Jewish Community Center and Adath Israel Congregation.They had tostruggle to remain Jews during the time of the rule of Idi Amin and are now fighting to get the State of Israel to agree to recognize them as Jews, eligible to make Aliyah to the Jewish state. We are fortunate to have Yonatan Katz Lukato come to speak to our local community before his return to Uganda at the end of this week after working at Camp Ramah in the Poconosto share with us the history, current situations, and visions for the future of the Jewish community in Uganda.Free and Open to the public. Yonatan Katz Lukato does Public Relations for the Marom Uganda Group. The Marom Uganda group was started by a few Abayudaya students and some volunteers in 2010. It aims at providing a fun, safe and spiritual environment where Abayudaya students and other Jewish people in and around Kampala can get together for Shabbat services and holidays as well as to network. We are collecting laptops, tablets, and phones you no longer use to donate to the Marom Uganda Group.
