The year leading up to my older son’s bar mitzvah was a joyous journey of learning for our entire family.

I joined the synagogue to be a part of a community. Studying and interacting with the other students was the greatest experience. I also enjoyed making the candies to throw at celebrations using pretty wrapping, color coordinating and making them unique for each celebration.

My favorite single memory of the past 27 years at Adath is impossible to pinpoint. However, My favorite memories are those that celebrate and bring the Adath community together. Because that’s what Adath is, and has always strived to be – a community. Family life cycle events are high on the list of personal favorite events; in times of joy and sorrow I feel connected to Adath. Our family’s Bar and Bat Mitzvah were joyful times to share. The support of our congregation on the Shabbat following 9/11 was palpable; we were all one in the sorrow of that day.

Community has been built by our participation in the retreats of years ago (and continuing last year), all family activity events, picnics, and our educational programming for both children and adults.
All these moments created friends for a lifetime, and bonds to a larger community that support and sustain me every day.

A recent memory of Adath Israel was a luncheon my cousin and I sponsored after a Shabbat service where some of my relatives and friends attended. I enjoyed it very much.

One of our favorite memories at Adath (so far!) has been our son’s Kabbalat Ha Siddur. We were so grateful for the extra help from everyone to make it a successful experience for our son who has special needs. He was so proud of himself!

My fondest memory was on the very first day I walked into Adath in 1998 and has lasted me to this day. My partner Paul and I, visiting Lawrenceville, were welcomed so warmly, and embraced wholeheartedly that I bought the house of family member only a half mile away from Adath and became a member immediately. I have been actively involved ever since.

When I sit in the Adath sanctuary, I frequently focus on the eternal light (ner tamid) above the bima, as well as on the tall cedar tree outside our sanctuary window. The eternal light reminds me that we are always protected. The eternal light is still, but powerful. The tall cedar tree shows me that there is strength in moving flexibly even during storms. Being in the sanctuary restores confidence and hope.

My favorite Adath memories are the musical Shabbats and the music during Purim and Simchat Torah because we get to sing and dance with everyone like one big family. –-Adam T.

One of my favorite memories at Adath was when we hosted The Fountainheads as part of Adath’s 90th Anniversary celebration. Our Adath community welcomed the broader Princeton/Mercer/Bucks community for a fabulous Israeli meal followed by an inspiring, energetic concert by The Fountainheads. It was a day of warmth, joy, celebration and community that I will remember forever.
